Plans for the Future

In those early months of the church in Jerusalem, the disciples would do ministry in an area known as “Solomon’s Porch,” an area alongside the temple courts that was not only a space for gathering, for laughter, for fellowship, but also a space for sharing in each other’s burdens. It was into that space that these disciples, carrying the gospel of Christ, brought healing.

In any building or home, regular updates are needed to maintain not just  functionality of a space, but also a sense of welcome, care, and concern for  those that enter into it. So a large component of these updates will incorporate long-needed restorations to areas of our church.

Among them include updates to current restrooms throughout the building, as well as the addition of restrooms more centrally located to the sanctuary.

Additionally, this project will renovate the chancel in the sanctuary and the area underneath the sanctuary, where we currently house our music ministry.

As a church, we highly value and prioritize our wonderful music ministry. But does our building communicate that we highly value and prioritize our music ministry? Perhaps not as much.

We will renovate our Sanctuary Chancel and spaces for the adult Chancel Choir, Children’s Choir, Flower Room, Music Library, and music ministry offices and storage.

With a renewed commitment to connection and hospitality, this project will repurpose centrally located areas of the church for fellowship.

In addition to the connecting space alongside the sanctuary, the hallway between the Spitzer building and the Chapel will be completely renovated to include a smaller reception room and updated bridal suite (across the hall from its current location) and an expanded Parlor, becoming a mid-sized fellowship hall perfect for gatherings like Joy Fellowship, Confirmation Breakfasts, Vacation Bible School, and community meetings and meals.

To make room for those fellowship spaces, the main office area will be renovated so that all staff offices can be in the same area of the church.

Accessibility and Connection
From End to End.

And in what is perhaps the most complicated aspect of this project, we want to connect our entire building in a way that is hospitable and accessible to everyone of all mobility levels.  Through the combination of ramps, enclosures, and a new elevator, the entire building will become accessible for someone using a stroller or a wheelchair. In other words, someone will be able to pass from Barron Hall to the Sanctuary to the Chapel to the Spitzer building all without having to go outside or having to go up or down stairs.
